GBPA Celebrated the Spirit of Grand Bahama Through Continued Partnership with Goombay Summer Festival

FREEPORT, GRAND BAHAMA – August 12, 2026 – Summer in Grand Bahama once again proved synonymous with culture, community and celebration, with the Goombay Summer Festival bringing Taino Beach to life over three consecutive Thursdays. Residents and visitors enjoyed authentic Bahamian cuisine, local artisans, live Bahamian entertainment, cultural performances and the vibrant energy of Junkanoo, while the Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) proudly continued its longstanding partnership with one of Grand Bahama’s signature summer events.

A proud partner since the festival’s inception, GBPA once again invested in an event that reflected the rich culture, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of Grand Bahama. Through its support of the Goombay Summer Festival, GBPA continued to champion initiatives that strengthened the local economy, celebrated Bahamian heritage and created opportunities for businesses to thrive.

The Goombay Summer Festival provided a valuable platform for local businesses, entrepreneurs, artisans, entertainers and food vendors to reach new audiences, showcase their talents and contribute to the island’s vibrant tourism experience. The festival not only highlighted the remarkable talent found throughout Grand Bahama but also encouraged residents and visitors to support the local businesses that help drive the island’s economy.

Each week, Taino Beach became a place where friends, families and visitors gathered to celebrate the warmth, hospitality and unique character of Grand Bahama. More than a festival, Goombay Summer was a celebration of the island’s people, traditions and the shared experiences that continue to make Grand Bahama a destination unlike any other.

“The Grand Bahama Port Authority was pleased to once again partner with Goombay Summer Festival as it created an opportunity for our licensees, local vendors and entertainers, while encouraging residents and visitors to experience everything Grand Bahama has to offer, including our rich traditions, food, dance, music and creativity,” said Dr. Telina Smith, Director of Human Resources and Donations Administrator at the Grand Bahama Port Authority. “It was wonderful to see the community come together to celebrate the spirit of Grand Bahama.”

The continued success of the Goombay Summer Festival reflected the power of collaboration between the public and private sectors, local businesses and the wider community. By investing in events that celebrated Bahamian culture while supporting economic opportunity, GBPA reaffirmed its commitment to helping build a vibrant and resilient Grand Bahama.

“At the Grand Bahama Port Authority, we believe that investing in our community means investing in the people, businesses and traditions that make Grand Bahama unlike anywhere else,” said Ian Rolle, President of the Grand Bahama Port Authority. “Goombay Summer Festival once again reflected the very best of our island. It celebrated our culture, created opportunities for local businesses and reminded us of the importance of working together to build a vibrant, thriving Grand Bahama. We were proud to continue partnering with an event that strengthens our economy, enriches our community and proudly showcases Grand Bahama.”

The 2026 Goombay Summer Festival once again demonstrated the strength of Grand Bahama’s culture, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. GBPA was proud to support an event that brought the community together, celebrated Bahamian heritage and contributed to the island’s economic and tourism vitality. The GBPA looks forward to continuing to support initiatives that create meaningful opportunities for local businesses while showcasing the very best of Grand Bahama.
