GRAND BAHAMA PORT AUTHORITY PROUDLY SPONSORS ‘FREEPORT’S GOT TALENT’

Freeport, Grand Bahama – September 23, 2024 –
The Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) is excited to announce its sponsorship of the much-anticipated Freeport’s Got Talent event, taking place at Port Lucaya Marketplace on the final weekend of September. This three-day event will feature an exciting range of local talent, including amateur singers, bands, and school and church choirs, bringing together the vibrant creative community of Grand Bahama.

Fatima-Zahra Kaboub, Freeport’s Got Talent Committee Chair, shared her enthusiasm saying “Freeport’s Got Talent is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of our community’s artistic diversity and passion. From soulful singers to stunning choirs, this event will highlight the very best of what Grand Bahama has to offer. We are honored to organize such a unique event that will bring people together for a memorable experience.”

The event is under the patronage of His Excellency Kevin Tomlinson, Ambassador-at-Large, Culture Affairs, Bahamas. Bahamian artist Julien Believe will serve as one of the judges, and acclaimed singers, song writers and producers Will and Sterling Gittens will be special guests, adding to the excitement of the weekend.

“There’s a big buzz around town concerning Freeport’s Got Talent, and I’m thrilled to be part of such an inspiring initiative. I commend the Grand Bahama Port Authority for consistently creating opportunities for Bahamians to explore their talents across many different areas. Events like Art Lucaya, Freeport Fashion Week, and now Freeport’s Got Talent are vital for showcasing the creativity in our community. I look forward to an exciting weekend ahead,” Ambassador Tomlison said.

With 15 soloists, six bands, and three church choirs, the event promises a weekend full of entertainment and community spirit, with performances that will captivate audiences of all ages. Each category winner will receive $2,500, with the overall winner taking home an additional $2,500.

Dr. Telina Smith, Director of Human Resources and Administrator of the Donations and Scholarship Committees at GBPA, emphasized the event’s alignment with Sarah St. George, Acting Chairman of GBPA’s vision.

“Events like Freeport’s Got Talent, along with other recent artistic and cultural initiatives, reflect Acting Chairman Sarah St. George’s belief that Grand Bahama can become the arts and culture capital of the Caribbean. We are proud to continue fostering creativity and bringing fresh opportunities to our talented community,” Dr. Smith said.

Robyn Major, Entertainment Coordinator for Port Lucaya Marketplace, expressed her excitement about the collaboration. “The management and staff are thrilled to partner with GBPA for this family-friendly event. We look forward to seeing the community come together for an incredible showcase of local talent.”

Freeport’s Got Talent is free to the public and will be held on Friday, September 27, Saturday, September 28, and Sunday, September 29, with each night beginning at 7 p.m. The GBPA and event organizers encourage everyone to come out, support the restaurants, bars and shops at Port Lucaya Marketplace, enjoy the show, and celebrate the local talent on display.
